Quite by accident, I went to the smartreading.ru project, which boldly sells electronic compendiums of other people’s books, as my own product, without contacting either with royalties or with any kind of agreement with the authors and publishers (except for the correct indication of the author and title of the book) .
This type of literature is called “sammari” (summary) and is a separate literary creative direction, the copyright for which is not the author of the book, but the author of the abstract.
This project was created by Mikhail Ivanov, a former co-owner of Mann, Ivanov and Ferber Publishing House (a man savvy in publishing).
When he was still working in a publishing house, he noticed that people no longer want to read voluminous books (they have neither the time nor the desire to do this). At the same time, they need new knowledge, especially in our dynamically developing time.
And he decided to create a publishing house that would publish not full-fledged paper books, but electronic abstracts of books of 5-10 pages, which would contain the main thoughts and ideas of the original source.
So Smartreading.ru appeared. The idea is not new. In the West, such publishers already exist.
Sammari (compendiums of books) are not sold individually, but all at once by subscription (from 6 to 18 months).
The first clients of such sammars are large business organizations that need to raise the potential of their employees (forcing them to learn new ideas from the business sphere – and where without it?).
And Mikhail Ivanov knew this well, since the main buyers of business literature are corporate clients (for them, by the way, there are other tariff plans, more expensive and massive).
So the business will not burn through, given that the main current expenses in such a business are the salaries of translators and those who can write notes (you don’t need to spend money on paper, delivery, or royalties).
Moreover, the advantage of such a publishing house is the ability to publish sammari, the originals of which will appear in Russia only in a few years (if at all).
Judging by how many books we are missing (look for something interesting on OZONE that you already heard from someone – these books have either never been published in Russia, or they were published several years ago and are no longer being published Will be).
And judging by the attendance of this site, which has been operating for only about six months – 190 thousand visitors per month – there is already a sufficient flow of customers.
I myself initially mistrusted e-books without a cover (initially, all books were exhibited with single-skinned covers, however, now they have been replaced with thematic pictures), but I decided to try to read several of these sammarias (access to some of them is free).
The first sammari is boring, but the idea is interesting (“a lie is bad because it takes time from people”).
I liked the second so much that I repeated his ideas to my family all day (I liked the French upbringing more than the American, with which the author actually compared him. At the same time, I found out how terrible there are municipal pre-school institutions in the USA. And what Thoughtless American and English parents pampering their children so much that they take their time and jump into their parents’ bed at night and in the morning. We also have such mothers in Russia, unfortunately. But, thank God, I’m not like that. Generally penetrated despite being small Volume.)
After reading each Sammari, you can take a test to verify how much the reader has understood the essence of the author’s ideas.
If this library had not only books on business and parenting, but also, for example, on the structure of the universe and new discoveries of physics, I would definitely subscribe. But I’m not sure yet that I need information on large business (which is the main one here).
Sammari are useful not only for the presentation of the basic ideas and thoughts of the book, but also for an approximate idea of what the book is actually about. In online stores of paper books, information about the contents of the book is presented so much that you don’t even know whether it is worth buying (I bought several books in this way, and, looking inside, I realized that this was not at all what I needed). I read the sammari, then I decided whether to buy the book itself.
And sometimes, really, I don’t want to waste time reading a whole book. I also bought different books at one time – they are dusting me undisclosed simply because I am very busy and cannot even spend the extra 30 minutes a day reading (and spending less than 30 minutes on a book a day is not enough because you need to Still time to delve into, remember what has already been read, tune in. In general, it’s better to read any book at once, in 2-3 days, then it will lie correctly in your head. But where to get these 2-3 completely free days?).
You may not succeed in creating a similar project from the field of business literature (where can you compete with a cool publisher with connections?), But you can quite use the idea of sammari in other areas of literature.
The first thing that comes to mind is the idea of creating sammari on the topic of school literary works. But here
