The gut is extremely adaptable and trainable
and studies, especially in animals, have clearly shown that the gut can adapt to whatever you
feed it, so if you increase the carbohydrate content of the diet, the gut will actually
improve its capacity to absorb carbohydrate, and this is also true for a number of other
nutrients. So, it is extremely adaptable and extremely
trainable and it is something athletes probably should make use of a little bit more than
they do today.
