Hi This is Alia, and welcome back to CookingWithAlia International Edition. I’m today with my friend, Ahmed Hi Alia! Hi everyone! Thank you for coming. Thank you for inviting me. Where are you from? I’m from Egypt. and I’m now in Korea for the past 6 – 7 months. I and Ahmed actually work together I love Egyptian food. Seem some Egyptian menu here. I’m from Rabat, but he is from Egypt. I love Egyptian food. See me some Egyptian menu here! Me too, I love Egyptian food. I actually adhere my mom’s cooking My favorite is called Molokhia. May be you can do it one day. also, Koshary and a lot types of beans Also, we have special Egyptian desserts By the way, lots of Moroccans love the Egyptian movies, food and music. That’s Great! so talking from desserts, we make a dessert today? Sure! we are doing Oum Ali Which is in Arabic or Egyptian called the mother of Ali Ali is a popular name as you know. That’s I’m Oum Alia. Actually for preparing desserts, I love it. Can you give a little description about this dessert? It’s very simple. Its story is a mix of milk, nuts and some pastry. It’s very easy to make and I think that may be the
reason that it is known, it’s not to be complicated We’re going to make a really simple one and very popular in Egypt I gave an example, in wedding, this is the first dessert that comes out. We guest Oum Ali in weddings. So I think it’s good start. If you have never made Middle eastern food or If you like Middle eastern food and you think that it’s complicated This is the video for you for just
prove you that’s easy to make it. Right!
Right! Let’s Start! We are going to use croissant here Because the croissant we are using fresh, so toast
it in the oven for 10 minutes. If you have old croissant 1 – 2 days, It’s actually
better because we want it to be crunchy. Let’s toast it While the croissant is in the oven, we’re going to prepare the milk. Place the milk in a sauce pan. Add the sugar. Heat the milk on medium heat, while stirring constantly, until the
sugar has dissolved the milk reaches a boiling point. While the milk is heating up and the croissant is in
the oven, we are going to prepare whipped cream. So the milk is ready, it’s reached the
boiling point, so we can use it. Look! the croissant is crunchy. It’s ready. start cutting it and putting it in your baking pan Here is the first layer. So, you can use any nuts of your choice. Here we have almonds, pistachios, walnuts, Cajues, and you can use dates The nuts should be toasted, it would be better in taste. Put more. Yum! This is raisins. We put them in hot water
for half an hour so it becomes soft. Oh … Yaaay!!! and we have coconut, unsweetened shredded coconut. So we cover the first layer with nuts
and cover the second layer with croissant and I feel like adding more. at your taste so here the milk cool down, we add
little vanilla extract form a flavor. so now this is basically of the last step We add the milk mixture to the croissant and nuts. The milk has to cover all the croissant so you don’t want un-moist croissant. As you can see the croissant is basically swimming in the milk. After we put the milk in the croissant we’re adding some whipped cream on the face No, on that face not my face. Because in Arabic he said “we add the whipped cream on
the face of the dish”, but also be funny. This is have to be even. You can just push them
with the spoon. It will get even in the oven. We’re going to sprinkle powder sugar on top This is the way to get the beautiful brown color on top of
this dessert and this is a trick to get it better. Bake it for10 – 15 minutes in the
oven and then in my stomach. As you can see we have this beautiful golden
brown color on the top of Oum Ali and we’re ready to do final steps Add a little bit of chopped nuts on top form Crunchy taste. Yum! Add a little bit of coconut Let’s serve it! You can eat it as it is or add whipped cream. Check this out. It seems Amazing.
I can’t wait. Check this out. You have to serve it right away. Because the croissant gets soggy, you should put it in the oven right away. You have to prepare it right before serving it like half an hour before because it take half an hour to make it and bake it. So you make it right in. If you prepare it and put the croissant and everything in the fridge
and then put it in the oven, it would be too soggy. So, it’s preferable to prepare everything at the last minutes One spoon!
Yeah! Yumm! Check this out! It’s supper! Depend on your taste, you can add more
milk so it would be more liquid or you can have it like us and then you see that the whipped
cream is going to melt and the whipped cream is liquid with it. It’s Amazing!
Yummy! Yummy! Thanks so much!
Thank you! I hope you make it and let me know how it goes. See you next time Bon Appetit!
